Russian diplomatic and military delegation headed by President Vladimir Putin's Special Envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev

Caretaker Prime Minister, Hassan Diab received at the Grand Serail, a Russian diplomatic and military delegation headed by President Vladimir Putin's Special Envoy to Syria Alexander Lavrentiev, and including the Head of the Central Command at the Ministry of Defense, Mikhail Mizietsev, Special Envoy of the Minister of Foreign Affairs for Syria, Alexander Kinschak, the Russian Ambassador to Lebanon, Alexander Rudakov, in addition to a delegation from the Ministry of Defense, including Colonel General Stanislav Gadzhimagomedov, Major General Yegorov, and Major General Alexander Zorin, in the presence of Minister Ramzi Musharrafieh and PM’s advisors, Khodor Taleb and Ambassador Gebran Soufane.
The delegation deliberated with Premier Diab on the importance of holding the Damascus conference for the return of the Syrian displaced, and hoped that Lebanon would be represented at the highest level. The delegation also indicated that the conditions for the return of the displaced to their country are secured, for the Syrian territories under the control of the Syrian state have become safe, while emphasizing that the displaced want to return home. The delegation expressed its appreciation for Lebanon’s great efforts to host the displaced Syrians and the relevant impact on the living, economic and financial conditions, which were exacerbated by the coronavirus pandemic and the Beirut port blast.
For his part, PM Diab welcomed the Russian initiative, which is in line with the general policy paper for the return of displaced Syrians, which was unanimously approved by the Council of Ministers on July 14, 2020. Premier Diab handed over a copy of the relevant policy paper to the Russian envoy who praised the efforts made to prepare it and its realistic and objective vision.
PM Diab thanked Russia for always standing by Lebanon’s side, especially at the UN level, and for offering health-related aid to combat coronavirus pandemic and for its assistance in the aftermath of the Beirut port blast.
